Its roots go back to 1921, when a massive flood severely damaged San Antonio. This vision took shape when architect Robert H.H. Hugman presented his plan in 1929. Entitled "The Shops of Aragon and Romula," it introduced winding walkways, graceful bridges, and shopping and dining areas inspired by Spanish cities.

Initially, the lack of funding slowed progress until the 1930s, when the Works Progress Administration began. In 1939, construction began, and Hugman's ideas became reality. The first 21 blocks of the River Walk opened in 1941, attracting both residents and travelers.

Today, the River Walk stretches 15 miles, lined with stunning artwork, attractions, and top-rated eateries. The area hosts seasonal and monthly events, ranging from Holiday celebrations to live music. Best of all, the area is safe, even at night, with police on foot and on bikes patrolling.
