Getting There

The turn-off is about 16 miles from town, leading you to nearly 10 miles of pristine coastline. Playa La Jolla stretches from the mouth of the Morúa Estuary past Playa Encanto and continues to the La Pinta Estuary (known locally as “esteros” — tidal entrances where the sea meets the land).

About the Beach

This flat, hard-packed sandy beach is ideal for long walks and some of the best shelling in the area. When the tide rolls in, grab a kayak or paddleboard and explore the calm waters teeming with beautiful scenery and diverse wildlife.

You can enjoy swimming, jet skiing, sunbathing, building sandcastles, or simply relaxing with a picnic. ATV riders love that they can park right on the beach. The area also offers convenient access to nearby dining options.

With minimal light pollution, La Jolla is fantastic for stargazing at night. During whale season, lucky visitors sometimes spot whales from their patios or the shore. Next door you’ll find the striking Encantame Towers and the popular Playa Encanto.

Located about 15–20 minutes outside of town — well worth the short drive for a quieter beach experience.
