Events this time of year include the Vallarta Cup sailboat races, the Nuevo Vallarta car show, the San Blas International Migratory Bird Festival, and the San Pancho Music Festival.
Riviera Nayarit in spring: Spring temperatures range from 46/86 degrees in March to 55/90 in May. March and April, particularly around Easter time, can be very busy. April through June are the most affordable months to visit. Flights: Most visitors to Riviera Nayarit book a flight through the Puerto Vallarta Airport (PVR), which is serviced by major airline carriers like Delta, United, and US Airways. The landing strip is 15 minutes from the southernmost parts of Riviera Nayarit, like Nuevo Vallarta, 30 minutes from Punta Mita, and 1 hour from Guayabitos. From elsewhere in Mexico, you can fly into Tepic International Airport (TPQ) with Aeromar Airlines from Mexico City or Volaris Airlines from Tijuana City, and travel one hour west to the San Blas sea port.
Public Transit: Airport Taxi is the most common way to get from the airport to your accommodations. You can purchase a ticket at a counter inside for about 215 pesos (or $18 USD). Longer trips to San Blas will cost roughly 3,465 pesos ($186 USD). There is a public city bus across the pedestrian bridge, but this option is not recommended if you are unfamiliar with the area.
Rental Cars: Hertz, National, Alamo, Avis, Budget, and Dollar all have rental car agencies operating out of the Puerto Vallarta Airport. Keep in mind you will need to purchase Mexican liability insurance before renting a vehicle in Mexico.
Bus Service in Riviera Nayarit: Taking the bus around Riviera Nayarit is easy and entertaining. The ATM (Autos Transportes Medina) line runs from Nuevo Vallarta to Punta de Mita. The white and green Compostela-Pacifico bus lines run to Sayulita, San Pancho, and Rincón de Guayabitos. You may need to hail the bus to stop it, and should come prepared with change.
Taxis: White city taxis wait outside all major resorts, with rates costing about 300 pesos ($16 USD) per hour. Be sure to get a price before you enter the taxi. Drivers often receive incentives for recommending particular bars or restaurants, so do not automatically assume you’ll get the best recommendation.
